The aim of physical therapists is to identify and maximise human movement potential within the spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, in partnership with their clients. The World Confederation for Physical Therapy, which was founded in 1951 to represent physical therapists internationally, champions the principle that every individual is entitled to the highest possible standard of culturally-appropriate health care provided in an atmosphere of trust and respect for human dignity and underpinned by sound clinical reasoning and scientific evidence. The Confederation is a non-profit organisation comprising 101 Member Organisations which, together, represent more than 300,000 physical therapists worldwide. The Confederation works to improve global health by encouraging high standards of physical therapy research, education and practice; supporting communication and exchange of information among Regions and WCPT Member Organisations; and collaborating with national and international organisations. To this end, WCPT undertakes a range of programmes and projects and supports international campaigns which promote the physical therapy profession and its contribution to global health. It encourages high standards of physical therapy research, education and practice and maintains official relationships and strategic alliances with government and non-government agencies worldwide, including the World Health Organisation. For more information you log in to http://wcpt.org World Physical Therapy Day WCPT has designated 8th September, the date WCPT was founded in 1951, as World Physical Therapy Day. The intention is that this day be used to recognise the work that physical therapists do for their patients and their community, and to support them in their efforts to promote the profession and to advance their clinical expertise. This day marks the unity and solidarity of the physical therapy community from 101 countries around the world. Celebration of the day is voluntary and activities & materials to celebrate the day are left to Member Organisations so that they can be developed to reflect key national priorities & messages. Many WCPT Member Organisations already have designated national physical therapy days, weeks and months and it is not the intention that these be changed to accommodate the world day. However, organisations that have not designated a day may choose to use 8th September. The programme and activities for 2010 Celebration is as follows: SKETCH OF TIMELINE FOR NIGERIA SOCIETY OF PHYSIOTHERAPY, LAGOS STATE CHAPTER IN CONJUNCTION WITH NATIONAL SPORTS MEDICINE CENTER ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2010
