The Board, MRTB, is a parastatal and an arm of the Federal Ministry of Health in Nigeria, which was established by Decree 38 of 1988/M9 LFN 2004 for the regulation and control of training and practice and a licensor of the following professions in the health sector in Nigeria:
1. Physiotherapy; However, the last two (2) professions left MRTB in year 2000 for other regulatory bodies, leaving MRTB with the first four (4) professions under her regulation and control. Though the Board, MRTB, was established in 1988 by the Decree but was not innaugurated until December, 1992. The innaguration makes the Board, MRTB, a legal body and therefore, it becomes illegal for anyone to teach or practise any of the above professions without current professional Licence. A professional with a current licence can only teach the profession in Board's accredited Institution. In compliance with the law, every practitioner of any of the above professions in Nigeria is expected, at the beginning of every year to renew his or her professional practising licence to enable him/her to legally practise his/her profession.
