Our role in the health care delivery system cannot be overemphasized and as important stakeholders in the health sector of Lagos State (the most populated state in Nigeria), we are committed to playing a vital role in the Primary Health Scheme of the Lagos State government with a view for advocacy and empowerment. It is a common saying that “prevention is better than cure” and in line with the latest trends of preventive medicine as obtainable globally, we are dedicated to take the bold step in enriching our nation for health is wealth. The shift in emphasis to health promotion and sickness prevention gives physiotherapists the ideal opportunity to highlight the invaluable contribution we have to make in health care delivery. We have chosen conditions such as Injection Palsy usually confused with Polio, Metabolic Syndrome, Back Pain, Sedentary death Syndrome, Health and Safety (Specifically safety on the roads) for our public awareness campaign through regular radio jingles and television interviews. The rest of the world is beginning to strive for the level of optimal health and wellness. The time has come to give an excuse to exercise instead of a reason not to. We are also committed to regular capacity building training programmes and continuous professional development of physiotherapists in Lagos, Nigeria and indeed neighbouring African countries in order to attain optimal efficiency and effectiveness in the integrated health care as required for global standards.
